FedEx Appoints Jones Lang LaSalle as Facilities Manager for Its New Asia Pacific Logistics Hub

Jones Lang LaSalle (NYSE: JLL) has been appointed as the facilities manager for FedEx Asia Pacific’s new 850,000-sq ft logistic hub in Guangzhou, China.

The Firm’s Integrated Facilities Management team will provide comprehensive engineering, maintenance, and inventory management services for all facilities including – for the first time – FedEx's sorting equipment. This state-of-the-art facility sorts 24,000 packages per hour with 1,200 FedEx staff.  It also provides clients with next-day delivery service to 22 major cities, linking them to 220 countries worldwide.

This win introduces a new service capability for Jones Lang LaSalle’s business. Approximately 50 staff members, from engineers to facility managers, will be involved in supervising the operations of the FedEx facility.

“Our partnership approach and flexible delivery model were the key differentiators in winning this project. We were able to recognize FedEx’s challenges and identify the right solutions to address them,” said Julius Lau, Head of Integrated Facilities Management at Jones Lang LaSalle, China. “We offered a dynamic delivery model, which includes partnering with different specialist vendors, to customize a solution that really delivers value and cost savings for FedEx”.

“We would like to congratulate Jones Lang LaSalle for the exceptional effort that went into this evaluation, and we recognize the hard work and significant accomplishments it has attained,” said Jim Lu, Facilities Manager for FedEx. “The Firm’s appointment will help bring international standards to a rapidly growing area in China.”

According to Jones Lang LaSalle’s Global Corporate Real Estate Survey 2011, 60% of companies worldwide expect to increase the size of their real estate portfolios in North Asia, predominantly China, in the next three years. China continues to attract manufacturers and industrialists to build plants and factories and these companies are increasingly looking at real estate outsourcing as a way to reduce operational costs and improve overall productivity. The FedEx Asia Pacific logistics hub is evidence of a continuing trend towards outsourcing facilities management in China’s industrial sector.

Jones Lang LaSalle is a leading commercial real estate and facilities management services provider.   In China, it currently has 19.8 million sq ft under its management, including 12.5 million sq ft of industrial portfolio.
