WPP Campus Shanghai - Co-location & Relocation Project

Our Client’s Situation

WPP engaged JLL to provide project management services to oversee the design, procurement, construction and successful relocation of 26 brands from different locations throughout Shanghai to 1 new building in the heart of Shanghai CBD comprising ~500,000 sqft.

Customized Solution

JLL implemented a central procurement strategy by taking the requirements for all small companies and going out to market as one large bulk procurement this resulted in major discounts on international brands of furniture, carpet chairs etc. for all WPP companies.

The same strategy was also applied to water and air filtrations systems and a state of the art meeting booking room system which has benefited the smaller companies particularly as these items normally would have been something that their budgets would not allow.

WPP Campus Shanghai 1.PNGThe Result

JLL Markets, Project & Development Services (“PDS”) and Integrated Facility Management (“IFM”) were awarded to represent WPP and all he WPP umbrella. The PDS team worked side by side with Markets during the final stages of the leasing negotiation stage, providing a seamless transition from Markets to PDS. Over the 11 month delivery period, PDS managed the project to its successful completion and provided a smooth handover to the IFM team.

Project statistics:

  • Over 26 brands across Shanghai relocated into 1 building
  • 26 individual designs and budgets managed
  • 12 months duration from initial appointment to the completion and full operation of all businesses at the new Campus
  • 4 months construction period
  • accident free delivery with 295,000 safe man hours
  • delivered the project under budget saving USD 300,000.00

The entire project is mooted to achieve a LEED gold status, and one of the companies is striving to be awarded the first WELL certified workplace in the WPP Group globally.

SYNERGY strategic sourcing partners were leveraged in the project for furniture and carpet procurement resulting in a further cost savings to the client.
