Tianjin is located in China’s North-Eastern Bohai Bay area about 140km southeast of Beijing. It is one of the four municipalities of the People’s Republic of China along with Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing. Tianjin’s history stretches back 600 years to the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty who gave the city its name. Since then, it has enjoyed times of prosperity associated with its early encouragement of foreign trade. Tianjin is now emerging as a major growth zone of Northern China.
11th Five Year Plan (2006 – 2010) has repositioned Tianjin as the ‘economic centre of north China’, and accelerated development and openness of new business areas such as Tianjin Binhai New Area. A combination of proactive governments, deep pools of skilled labour and good transportation links, has insured Tianjin’s leading position and success in future.
